Chiron vs Chiron Super Sport vs Veyron: which to buy

Buy the Chiron if you want the modern Bugatti, the Chiron Super Sport if power and top speed matter most, and the Veyron if you want the original at a lower entry point. Car and Driver lists 1,500, 1,578 and 1,001 horsepower respectively. All three are all-wheel drive with an 8.0-litre W16.

Which Bugatti should you buy?

The three cars share a recipe: an 8.0-litre, quad-turbo, 16-cylinder engine behind the cabin, a dual-clutch gearbox and all-wheel drive. What separates them is power, age and what you want from ownership. The right answer depends less on the spec sheet than on whether you plan to drive the car, collect it, or both.

  • Choose the Veyron if you want the car that started the modern Bugatti story and a lower price of entry into the brand.
  • Choose the Chiron if you want the benchmark: a newer car, more power, and the model most buyers mean when they say Bugatti.
  • Choose the Chiron Super Sport if you want the most powerful road-going version of the Chiron and are paying for that margin deliberately.

How do the three compare side by side?

Here is the comparison in one place. Figures are from Car and Driver, read on 2026-11-06. Where a figure was not published for a model, it is left out rather than estimated.

  • Veyron: 8.0-litre quad-turbo W16, 1,001 horsepower, all-wheel drive. Sold as a coupe and as a Grand Sport with a targa top. No longer sold new.
  • Chiron: same engine family, 1,500 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. Claimed 2.3 seconds to 60 mph and a 261 mph top speed. Seven-speed dual-clutch, all-wheel drive.
  • Chiron Super Sport: 1,578 horsepower. Car and Driver measured 2.2 seconds to 60 mph and under 15 seconds to 200 mph.
  • Price reference: Car and Driver calls the Chiron a roughly 3 million dollar car and shows used 2022 examples at 6.0 to 8.5 million dollars in the US. Those are US dollars, not Dubai prices.

Is the Chiron Super Sport worth the premium over the standard Chiron?

The Super Sport adds 78 horsepower on the standard car's 1,500, which is about five percent. Car and Driver measured 2.2 seconds to 60 mph against the standard car's claimed 2.3. On a road in Dubai, you will not feel that difference at the speeds you can use.

What you do get is the version of the car associated with the 304.773 mph test-track run, which Car and Driver says was set by a model with specifications almost identical to the Super Sport, driven by factory test driver Andy Wallace. That is a real part of the car's identity. Whether it is worth paying for is a personal call. If you buy for driving, the standard Chiron is already beyond usable. If you buy for the strongest example of the model, the Super Sport is the answer.

Is a Veyron still a sensible buy next to a Chiron?

Car and Driver describes the Veyron as perhaps the greatest supercar ever, built for those with all the money in the world and a desire to go blisteringly fast. Its 1,001 horsepower was extraordinary when it launched and is still quick by any standard today. The Chiron is the later, more powerful car, and it is the one the market treats as the current reference.

The practical case for the Veyron is the entry point. It is generally the cheaper way into the brand, and the Grand Sport gives you an open-top option. The practical case against it is age: ask harder questions about service history, wear items and what has been replaced, and expect a more detailed inspection. Neither car is a casual purchase.

Which is easier to live with?

Neither is a daily driver in the usual sense, but they are not identical. Car and Driver's verdict on the Chiron is that it is less practical than everything else and guzzles gas like nothing else, with up to 9 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway for the standard car, and 8 mpg city and 11 mpg highway for the Pur Sport and Super Sport. The cabin is finely made but dated in one respect: there is no Apple CarPlay and no driver-assistance technology.

If your plan is to drive the car on a Friday morning and keep it in a climate-controlled garage the rest of the week, any of the three suits. If you want to use it more often, think through servicing access, insurance and storage before you choose on horsepower.

What should you check on any of the three before you buy?

For the price side of the decision, read our guide to Bugatti prices in Dubai. For the checks that apply to every exotic, see what to check before buying a used supercar.

  • Exact version and options. Confirm which Chiron it is, and whether Sur Mesure customisation was ordered, so you are comparing like with like.
  • Service record. Dated invoices from an authorised source. At this level a gap is a price conversation.
  • Specification and origin. GCC-spec or import, confirmed in writing. Our guide to GCC specs explains why it matters.
  • Condition. Current photos, a video walkaround and an independent inspection before you transfer funds.
  • Warranty. It depends on the individual car, so ask what applies to this one.
